Canal Barge Company

Founded in 1933, Canal Barge Company, Inc. is a privately owned, independent marine transportation company headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our fleet of 32 towboats and over 800 barges operate throughout the Inland Waterways System of the United States. Over the decades, the company has expanded from a one-barge operator to one of the most diverse marine transportation companies in the country. We move products such as lube oils, black oils, and petrochemicals in addition to coal, petroleum coke and crushed stone.  We also transport some of the largest equipment ever moved by water, including refinery and power plant components, oil and gas exploration structures, and military cargos.

Canal Terminal Company owns and operates a state-of-the-art liquid storage terminal in the Chicago area, specializing in the handling of asphalt, black oils and high-end chemicals.  With the recent acquisition of Illinois Marine Towing, we are now the largest independent towing and fleeting service on the Illinois River.

Canal Barge is committed to full-service dry cargo shipping and has developed long-term partnerships with utilities, refineries, construction aggregates and other major dry cargo shippers. Providing dedicated service and logistics is how we do business. Using our logistical knowledge and experience, we develop customized shipping plans to efficiently move various types of dry cargo and meet our customers' specific needs. We pride ourselves on top-of-class marine transportation service and organizational capability, while retaining a personal touch in all of our dealings.

CBC enjoys long-term, multifaceted customer relationships with Fortune 500 chemical and oil companies, public utilities, construction companies, fabricators, engineering companies, and the United States government. For more information on Canal Barge contact Larry Barbish at 504.584.1535 or
